KOWLOON AND TAIKOO Dockyards appeare to be repaired

The Garrison and in working order, also Naval Dockyards. consists of approximately 1,000 Japanese troops, plus Indian and Chinese Police.

Strenous attemps made to persuade Indians to join Japan. For instance, it is reported from a reliable source that after a propaganda talk to Indians, all who were pro- Japanese were asked to separate themselves from the rest. When only a few responded, the Japanese bayonetted three of the others.

As far as shipping is concerned, the Japanese are using East Lammas Channel only, Lyemun Channel not being utilised. KAI TAK Aerodrome is not being used to any great extent but they are enlarging it. San Chua Island used as Military air Base. A number of ships sunk in the Harbour, most of which had been raised and the Harbour cleared.

Hongkong Government Bacteriologist, instructed by Japanese to visit Restaurants in order to test purity of food in them, found evidence that human bodies were being used as food.

Understood that MACAU coninued to enjoy neutral status, with money obtainable there and communications with Lisbon possible.
